The 12th Portuguese Meeting on Physical Chemistry will be held at University of Évora (Évora, Portugal) between 22nd and 24th June 2016 under the auspices of the Physical Chemistry Division of the Portuguese Chemistry Society.
Like previous editions, this event will bring together researchers from all the fields of Physical Chemistry in order to stimulate the discussion about the most recent advances in this scientific domain.
In this occasion, the 1st Symposium on Computational Chemistry will also take place on 22nd June 2016, where recent works in this field will be presented.
The Meeting/Symposium will include plenary lectures, invited communications, oral and poster communications. The official languages will be Portuguese and English.
It is expected that the 12th Portuguese Meeting on Physical Chemistry will be a discussion forum and an opportunity for ideas and experiences exchange between researchers that work on different fields of Physical Chemistry. The participation of young researchers is highly encouraged.
The Meeting is open to contributions from all areas of Physical Chemistry, as well as from border fields where the concepts of Physical Chemistry play an important role.

The Meeting will be held in Évora, Alentejo’s most important city, whose historic center is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO since 1986 because of its urbanistic and monumental richness. The city has a vibrant cultural life and, by the days the Meeting is being held, its most important popular event takes place – the S. Joao’s Fair.
The University of Évora was founded in 1559, being the second oldest university of Portugal. It was closed in 1759 by the prime minister of that period – Marquês de Pombal – and was restored only in the 20th Century. The Academic Institute of Évora was first created in 1973, which was followed by its extinction and replacement with the refoundation of the University of Évora in 1979.
The University of Évora is organized in 4 Schools (Science and Technology, Arts, Social Sciences and Nursing) and offers about one hundred degrees (undergraduate and post graduate), with about 8000 students overall. Research and Development (R&D) covers several scientific areas through a network of 14 Research Units, all of them submitted to international evaluation, under the coordination of the Institute for Research and Advanced Studies.
The Meeting will be held in Colégio do Espírito Santo, the most historic building of University of Évora and also one the city’s icons.
From the West - Lisbon (130 Km; approx. 1h:15m)
Depending on the location in Lisbon where you depart from, leave the city through “25 de Abril” bridge (near the monumental “Cristo-Rei statue”; you will be taking the A2 highway) or through Vasco da Gama bridge (near the “Oriente railway station”; you will be taking the A12 highway). Follow instructions in the A2 highway (or head towards A2 if you left Lisbon on the A12 highway). Take the exit to the A6 highway, follow the direction of Évora and Spain (Espanha). Continue for about 60 km and then take the exit to Évora. Follow the national road N114 for 12 km until you reach the city of Évora. Inside the town, follow indications to Universidade de Évora (Colégio do Espírito Santo).
From the North – Inland regions, Vila Real (460 Km; approx. 5h:30m)
Follow, in succession, the highways A24, A25 (Viseu, Espanha direction) and A23 (Lisboa, Portalegre direction). Then take the IP2 (Portalegre, Nisa direction) until Estremoz. At Estremoz follow the indications to the A6 highway (Évora, Lisboa direction). The exit to Évora is at about 15 km away from the city, taking the national road N18. Inside the town, follow indications to Universidade de Évora (Colégio do Espírito Santo).
